An American tourist who broke her hip just before her wedding in Bermuda this month had an amazing premonition about the bad luck which would beset her on the Island.

Last Monday, cruel thieves stole Roxanne Coats' purse as she received medical treatment after being knocked off her moped by a car outside Admiralty Park.

Just a week before the accident, Ms Coats told her local paper in Nashville, Tennessee, that her greatest fear before the wedding was that she would have a bike accident.

Ms Coats broke her hip in the accident, which almost resulted in her wedding to Art McDonald being cancelled.

Instead of the planned ceremony at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel, she was married in her wheelchair at a ceremony last Sunday at the Botanical Gardens.

Just before leaving for Bermuda, the couple gave an interview to the Nashville City Paper in which they made an uncanny prediction about the accident.

The newspaper interviews couples planning to marry about their hopes and fears.

Ms Coats said: "Our greatest fear is being run over by an out-of-control moped in Bermuda during our five days we're there before the ceremony.

"Trying to avoid broken bones, facial lacerations and the the like will be an utmost priority.

"We've heard that the mode of transportation in Bermuda is mopeds and and have learned from several friends who've been there that the accident rate is outrageous - considering they drive on the opposite side of the road."

The day after Ms Coats' accident, her purse was handed back by someone who found it in Admiralty Park, but about $50 in cash had been stolen.
