A Warwick man denied stealing a bike and an alternative charge of receiving the bike after it had been stolen when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday .

But Germel Williams, 32, of Khyber Heights Lane, Warwick, also denied stealing $1,300 in cash that was in the basket of the cycle.

Williams was accused of stealing a V80 cycle licence number AS504 valued at $1,000 in Pembroke on September 3.

Crown counsel Cindy Clarke said "the cash was contained in the basket of the cycle".

The $1,300 cash was property of Martin and Barry Lewis, she said.

Magistrate Edward King read out the second charge to Williams: "If you did not steal the bike, then on the third of September, you received a bike well knowing that it had been unlawfully obtained".

Williams will appear for trail in Magistrates' Court on October 18.

He was granted bail at $2,000, however, had to pay $350 in old fines yesterday, or spend 35 days in prison.
