Policeman: I nearly lost foot in collision
A Policeman on a motorbike said he would have lost his foot had he not jumped out of the way of a bus on North Shore Road last night.
The collision between a Public Transportation Board bus and a motorcycle took place in the eastbound lane of North Shore Road, Devonshire near the Clayhouse Inn shortly after 7 p.m.
Kume Evans said if he had not jumped out of the path of the bus the female bus driver would have taken his foot down the road with her.
?I was stopped here speaking to my father-in-law basically to see if he needed a ride. I saw the bus come by the old entrance to the Clay House Inn. I started rolling back and I saw the bus coming. As I was looking back, I was saying this bus is not going to stop. I was trying to create space in front of me so she can stop at the pole.
?I am looking at her, she is looking at me and I said there is no way this bus is going to stop. So I immediately stopped the bike, got off the bike and started leaning it in the sidewalk.
?Eventually I said let me get off the bike and that is when she hit it,? he said. ?She ripped off the foot brake and broke the stand,? he said.
The bus and its driver had left the accident scene when arrived but Police were carrying out an inquiry into the collision.
