GOLF GLF The Bermuda Golf Association's autumn season is fast approaching and entries are being received now for the three major upcoming events.
From October 5-9 the prestigious Bermuda Ladies Amateur Championships will take place at Mid Ocean Club. For this event the handicap limit has been raised to 24 in able to allow for greater participation by local players. The cut-off date is September 28.
Five overseas players who make regular appearances in the competition have already registered to play.
Mutual Risk Management and Exel Limited have boosted the local golf scene considerably by providing major sponsorship for the Bermuda Open. The top event is scheduled for October 15-18 at Port Royal and already last year's winner Ron McDougall has expressed a keen interest to defend his title.
Over 20 professionals and amateurs from abroad have already entered well in advance of the cut-off date of October 8.
The ever-popular Bermuda Four Ball Championship, scheduled for Port Royal on November 5-8, has attracted a number of pairings from abroad as well.

SOFTBALL SOF Commercial Division league action on Wednesday saw Snow Balls beat Cable Vision 16-8 behind Tom Kudirka, Lul Gaynon and Franco Morid.
Kudirka went four-for-four and Gaynon and Morid three-for-four to lead Snow Balls' batting behind winning pitcher Mario Valcourt. Jim McArthur, who was also the losing pitcher, went three-for-four for Cable Vision.
BPSA Simbas defeated Centre Re 20-17 with Brent Weekes going four-for-four and David Richardson three-for-four. Nas Jetha was the winning pitcher.
For the losers George Hutchings suffered the loss while Harold Minors went three-for-four, including a homer and four RBI.
Bank of Butterfield Fluyers defeated K/W 23-7 as Kevin Monkman led the batting assault by going three-for-four and driving in five runs.
