Financial controller Albert gets top Garrison Lodge post

Bermuda Garrison Lodge No. 580 on the registry of the Grand Lodge of Ireland has a new Wor. Master. He is Wor. Bro. Albert VanLowe, whose ordinary calling is that of a financial controller.

The installation at Freemasons Hall in Hamilton was attended by the Deputy Prov. Grand Master of the Prov. Grand Lodge of Ireland in Bermuda, Rt. Wor. Keith White, who is pictured (left) with other grand lodge officers together with Garrison's newly-installed officers. Wor. Bro. VanLowe is seen close up (far right) with VW. Bro. Alan Joel, who was his Installing Master.

Significantly, it was the latter who sponsored Bro. VanLowe at his initiation into the lodge 12 years ago.

Garrison Lodge was founded in 1924. Originally, it was a travelling military lodge with members drawn from British Army and Navy forces stationed on the island.

When its membership fluctuated with the turnover of the armed forces, its strength was drawn from expatriates in the Bermuda PoliceService.

Nowadays it is thoroughly civilianised, and its only military connotations are its name and treasured artifacts.
