Gunshots heard on Middle Terrace, Pembroke on Friday

Gunshots rang out in Middle Terrace in Pembroke on Friday evening but no one appears to have been hurt.

Pembroke South East MP Ashfield DeVent, who lives on nearby Friswells Road, told The Royal Gazette he heard four or five shots. The Government backbencher said residents were left terrified and were getting fed up with neighbours allowing certain individuals to hang out at their homes.

"The people that have lived here for years are beginning to express some anger towards the households that seem to allow some of the activity that attracts this type of behaviour to continue. There is a number of people have said it."

He said the shots were "relatively loud" and were probably heard by people in a huge radius around Middle Terrace.

The reported gunfire followed the confirmed shooting in the early hours of Friday of alleged top gang member Prince Barrington Edness.

The 24-year-old, said to be in the so-called Parkside crew, was left with serious injuries after being hit in the area of Elliott Street and Court Street. Yesterday, he was in a stable condition in the intensive care unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Police said they received a report of a firearm incident on Middle Terrace at about 10.40 p.m. on Friday. A spokesman said: "Officers attended the scene and spoke with area residents; however, at that time, nothing was found to substantiate the report.

"Inquiries at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital revealed that no one has been admitted with gunshot wounds. Inquiries into the matter are ongoing."
