The Community Safety Unit advises the following to avoid having your home broken into:

• Do not leave outgoing messages on your answering machine stating that you are not home. Instead, say that you are unable to come to the phone;

• At night draw the curtains or close the blinds so people cannot see inside, and if you go out, leave a radio or television on;

• Join a Neighbourhood Watch Group;

• Do not leave spare keys outside in a 'hiding place';

• Do not leave notes pinned to the door or other signs that you are away;

• Keep doors and windows locked - even when you are in, with secondary locks on windows to allow for ventilation but at no more than five inches wide.

Residents who believe the above list of recovered goods contains their property should contact the Police on 234 1010.

Police are warning motorists to slow down after another spate of accidents resulting in injury.

Between April 14-21, there were 11 crashes in which people were hurt, while another 26 vehicles were damaged in separate collisions and three arrests on suspicion of impaired driving.

A Police spokesman said: "We continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the Island's roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those travelling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane."

Motorists are also being encouraged to secure their vehicles. Last week, the Police reported 19 thefts - the majority of which were motorcycles.
