Music lovers answer Janet's 'Call'
WAS stunned earlier this week when I learned a young man was arrested for stabbing his older brother five times! FIVE TIMES! Although there must always be a presumption of innocence until guiIt has been proven, I cannot fathom what might have made a brother do this to his sibling. I have a brother who I love very dearly and who I could never imagine stabbing or causing any harm. We have some serious issues in our society, which we must address. We'll get into this in more detail after we visit the Top 20.
Improving to number one is the new one from Janet (Jackson) & Nelly, entitled . Janet looks great these days. As one who is in her age/peer group, it is encouraging to see someone over 40 looking good, young and fit. It gives the rest of us hope.
Tumbling to number two is from the reigning Queen and King of Hip Hop, Beyonce and Jay-Z. Before you die, you must hear the Maurice Joshua/Freemasons Dance Mix. It really is to die for!
Up to number three is by Young Dro featuring T.I. This one has done well in all the charts.
Up to number four is by Chingy featuring Tyrese. Soaring to number five is by Young Joc featuring Brandy.
Climbing to number six is , from Ludacris and Pharrell. Tumbling to number seven isby Lyfe Jennings.
Slipping to number eight is Sean Paul featuring Keyshia Cole, with . Sean Paul must be the reigning king of dancehall these days. Others are putting out hits, but his joints are banging all over the world and within more demographic groups.
Falling to number nine isby Ne-Yo, one of the hottest new male vocalists in the business. Improving to number 10 is , by Justin Timberlake. I really like this hit. It is different, creative, it has a banging beat and honeys love JT. Cameron Diaz better watch her back!
Falling to number 11 is Nelly Furtado and Timbaland, with their hit single. Down to number 12 is by Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean. Down to the number13 spot isby the model-turned-singer Cassie.
Jumping to number 14 is Beyonce with her new hit , this week's essential new joint. B is just a show stopper. Anything she puts out is gonna rock and this one is no exception.
Now some other new joints. New at number 15 is by teenage heartthrob Chris Brown. He even drove the honeys here crazy. Entering at number 16 is by Mary J. Blige. Joining the team at number 17 is by Ciara featuring Chamillionaire.
Now some banging house music, finally, something DJLT really likes. In at number 18 is by Jessica Simpson. New at number 19 is hottie Paris Hilton with her dance hit . Go Paris, a double threat! And rounding things out at number 20 is the posthumously released Luther Vandross dance hit . However, you must hear and play the Freemasons Remix. Who are these Freemasons cats? They are putting out some incredible dance tracks these days.
Now back to this week's word - the problems with our young people.
I have been praying for the family of the young brother who was stabbed and had to be flown out of here.
I can't imagine the pain their parents are feeling. However, this speaks to larger problems that we have with our young people. Violence is just crazy and it is on the increase.
The Police will point to statistics that show that there are fewer crimes being committed. However, that doesn't matter if you are the one victim of a crime during a particular week. The victims and their families don't care if their experience was part of a number of crimes during a particular period.
All they care about is the fact that they are a victim. Therefore, the goal is zero crimes of any type and until the number is zero, we will not be satisfied, and we shouldn't be satisfied until we get there. However, we digress.
We are trying all manner of things to reach out to our young people, especially our young men, who appear to need anger management training and who seem to be unable to control their anger and frustration.
These brothers seem to be angry at the world and mad at everybody in it. We have tried a number of things but none appear to be really working. I am aware that the Government, through the Ministry of Labour, Home Affairs & Public Safety, has an anti-gangs initiative going on, which will hopefully rid this country of the gang problem. I really like former Police Commissioner Jonathan Smith (heck, he even carries the same name as my son). However, I'm not sure why he denied that there are gangs in Bermuda when he was Commissioner. Everybody else knew they existed. He is an intelligent man, so I'll assume that he knew and denied it so as to alarm everyone living here.
Hopefully the Ministry's initiative will not only deal with the gang situation but will also help to diminish violence. I usually blame parents for the failings of their children, but whilst parents must accept some of the blame, if a person is considered an adult, which one is at 18, one then becomes accountable for one's own actions. We all know the difference between right and wrong, good and evil, but in life we have to make choices and the choices we make today determine what happens to us tomorrow. Its really that simple.
However, notwithstanding any and all initiatives that may have been implemented or that may be introduced in the future, I believe that the solution to most of our problems is Jesus Christ! This country needs the Lord.
Our young people need Jesus! We have gotten away from our religious past. Years ago, we all went to Church. Nowadays, we are more concerned about if the stores are open on Sundays than we are with going to Church. And we wonder why we have problems!
We have taken Christ out of schools, and we wonder why our children are wayward! We stopped taking our children to Church and/or Sunday School, then we wonder why they behave like ungodly people. We have told our sons and daughters that it is OK to have sex, just use a condom. Then we wonder why illegitimacy continues to be a problem! Abstinence is the answer.
The Bible denounces fornication, adultery and predatory sexual lifestyles. There is no debate. And we have perverts and pedophiles who tamper with little boys and girls. But families don't report them to the authorities when they know that these people are menaces to society.
Therefore, although I digress somewhat, we have been the architects of our own situation, by taking God completely out of our lives and by trying to box him into a 55 minute service once a week (services which most people don't even bother attending).
But back to the violence of our young men. Fathers need to spend more time with their sons and daughters, but especially their sons. Mothers need to spend more time with their children. We need to stop chasing the dollar, give up the part-time jobs, stop trying to keep up with the Jones', working to acquire every material possession we see, and live within our means. We need to set better examples for our young people. They see us (adults) doing a pack of ignorance and the message this sends is that it is cool to live this way. Well, this has to stop.
Finally, we have to keep our boys involved in activities. Keep them doing things. We must develop in them a quest for knowledge; a love of reading; a good work ethic; an appreciation for balance in life; a love of God; respect for women; respect for others; respect for self; an appreciation of what it means to be a father; an understanding of their role as men; the knowledge that they are supposed be the leaders of their households, communities and this country.
However, the best gift we can give our children is the gift of Jesus Christ. When we give our children this gift, everything else listed or stated above just falls into place. May God bless this country and all of its people.
Peace ...
