Wellman places seventh
Bermudian triple jumper Brian Wellman placed seventh at the Goodwill Games yesterday in Australia, to all but wrap up his athletics season.
The local unearthed a best jump of 52 feet, 4.75 inches in the final of the event, as the track and field portion of the games took hold at this quadrennial festival.
Long-time rival and world record holder Jonathan Edwards once again showed his prowess at the discipline with a leap of 55ft 1.75in to grab gold for Britain in an event that he has truly made his own.
The result for Wellman though was somewhat disappointing, following his gold medal exploits at the Central American and Caribbean Track and Field Championships in Guatemala back in July, where he set a Games record of 17.24 metres.
This was followed by sixth place at the Worlds in Edmonton, Canada, where he jumped 16.81 metres.
