Bermuda National Trust Event

The Friends of Verdmont present - Prisoners of the Boer War. A fascinating, little-known stories told by Andrew Bermingham, author of ?Bermuda Military Rarities?. Guests are welcome to bring their own (small) Boer artefacts for Mr. Bermingham to examine. The event will take place at the Verdmont Museum. Open house at 2 p.m. and the talk begins at 3 p.m. Tickets $20. Light refreshments served. Seating is limited, tickets may be reserved and purchased in advance from Waterville at 236-6483.

Bermuda Maritime Museum Local history and culture comes alive at Bermuda Maritime Museum, inside the great fortress Keep of the Old Royal Naval Dockyard. Extensive artefact collections and historical exhibits are within the Keep?s many historic buildings, including ammunition stores and the restored Commissioner?s House. This is the place for Bermuda?s fascinating maritime and military history-including shipwrecks and discovery, the Royal Navy and the dockyard, sailing and unique traditions, cultural connections, forts and war veterans. Bermuda National Trust Museums: Verdmont: Early 18th-century mansion containing many Bermudian pieces, china and portraits, Collector?s Hill, Smith?s Parish. Open TUESDAY through SATURDAY. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission $3.

Globe Hotel King?s Square, St. George?s. Built by Governor Samuel Day, the hotel dates from c. 1700, making it one of the oldest stone buildings in Bermuda. American Civil War exhibits. Open MONDAY TO SATURDAY, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission $4

Tucker House Mid-18th Century home on Water Street, St. George?s. Commemorates prominent Tucker family, whose members include a once-resident president of Bermuda?s Governor?s Council, an important Williamsburg judge and a US Treasurer. Displays include a tribute to Joseph Rainey, a barber in Bermuda who became the first black Representative in the US Congress, an exemplary collection of 18th Century portraits, furniture and silver and an archaeological exhibit that showcases the results of an extensive three-year excavation in the basement. Kitchen furnished as it once was: MONDAY TO SATURDAY 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission $3. Combination ticket to all three museums is $5, $2 for students (ID required for college students).
