St. George's, Bay clinch final camel cup spots

St. George's ensured their spot in next year's Camel Cup competition with a narrow win win over a game Clevland side.

Making the scoreline strange was the fact that the east enders won by one run despite batting second.

They lost their tenth wicket after crossing their opponents score when instead of maintaining their ground after registering the winning single, the final pair chose to congradulate one another in the middle of the wicket and in the meantime Grant Smith whipped off the bails for the last out.

Graham Fox top scored during the St. George's innings with 61, assisted by Troy Hall (30) and Kenny Phillips (20). Fox slammed six fours and two sixes coming in at number three.

Peter Philpott claimed three wickets for the visitors while teammates Corey Lowe and Diallo Sharieff had two apiece.

Earlier David adams tore through Cleveland with his right-arm spinners winding up with six for 73. Lowe had a fine allround performance as he led the Cleveland batting with 51 while Del Hollis contributed 43.

Hamilton Parish 111 Bailey's Bay 113-1 Bailey's Bay qualified for a Camel Cup spot on the last day of the season by convincingly beating rivals Hamilton Parish by nine wickets at Sea Breeze Oval.

Opener Cal Dill spearhead the team to victory with a solid half-century while Clarkie Trott and veteran Noel Gibbons inspired their bowling with four wickets apiece.

Dill hammered 59 while skipper Chris Smith was undefeated with 35 as Bay reached their winning target of 112 with relative ease.

Dennis Trott was top bat for Hamilton Parish with 42, Ashton Outerbridge scored 17 and opener Millard Bean 15. Clarkie Trott took four for 31 and Noel Gibbons had four for 61, both bowled consecutive 19 overs.

Southampton Rangers 291 Willow Cuts 58-4 Stevie Lightbourne hammered 95 and skipper Ricky Brangman hit 56, still this was sufficient to steer Southampton to victory in this drawn game at Southampton Oval.

Also among the runs for the home team were 16-year-old Dean Stevens with 46, Olin Jones 24, David Stoneham 20 and Quinton Burch 16. Lightbourne struck seven sixes and four fours in the feature innings.

Rodney Fubler was the pick of the Willow Cuts bowlers with six for 70, skipper Dexter Basden had three for 62.

Winslow Williams led Willow Cuts in reply with 17 not out while Richard Basden had 13 not out. Ryan Belboda had two for 22.

Devonshire Rec. 265 Police 190-6 Opening batsman Dennis Archer hammered 102 not out off just 93 balls but this fine batting performance still was not good enough to prevent Devonshire Rec.

from drawing the game at Devonshire.

In the chase after their winning target of 266, Police did well to reach 190-6 off just 28 overs with Archer leading the way. His whirlwind knock produced six sixes and 10 fours.

Also among the runs was Tyrone Smith 22, Patrick Waithe 19 and Wayne Clarke 16. Skipper Anthony Amory led Devonshire's bowling with three wickets for 70 while Leon Place had two for 27.

Erskine (Choe) Smith was top bat for Devonshire with 43 while Amory struck 38, Place 33, Donald Norford 28 and Albert Steede 27. Michael Jackman took three for 28 and Henderson Hoyte two for 51.

Somerset Bridge 107 Devonshire Rec. 109-2 Defending champions Devonshire Rec. ended their season on a winning note with this eight-wicket triumph over Somerset Bridge at White Hill, thanks to skipper Anthony Amory who took four for 18. Mark Trott took two for 11.

Gladwin Ingham was top batsman for Bridge with 31 while opener Robin Swan followed with 26 and Sidney Simmons 25.

Albert Steede struck 48 not out off 51 balls as Devonshire wasted little time in reaching victory. Donald Norford hit 17, Lloyd Morrison 16 and Leon Place 15 not out.

Flatts 147 Nationals 110 Nationals' hopes of qualifying for the Camel Cup were severely hampered before the first ball was bowled when they had only 10 players show up for this home game. They went on to lose to Flatts by 37 runs.

Skipper Rodney Woolridge led Flatts batting with 55 runs, including eight fours, while McDonald Woolridge followed with 27. Chris Wright was the best bowler for Nationals with five for 43, Bruce Perinchief had three for 36 and Gary Knight two for 19.

John Ray was top scorer for Nationals with 31 not out. Tail-ender Scott Corday was next with 19 not out, Wright 18 and Knight 15. Floyd Smith took four for 31 and Kevin Hurdle three for 38.

Social Club 160 Police 162-3 Wayne Clarke hammered 94 and skipper Ferdinand Thorne was undefeated on 34 as Police beat a nine-man Social Club team by seven wickets at Police field yesterday.

Also among the runs for Police was opening batsman Dennis Archer with 26.

Clarke and his skipper put on 96 for the third wicket.

Thomas Brangman was top batsman for the losers with 41, veteran Lee Raynor followed with 34. Archer took four for 32 and Roger Blades three for 25 to lead the Police bowling attack.
