Rangers romp to five-wicket victory

Lyndon Raynor, Quinton Burch and Michael Brangman combined to take nine wickets to lead Southampton Rangers to a five-wicket victory over St. David's at Southampton Oval yesterday.

The visitors lost opener Allen Richardson without a run scored and struggled for runs until the end with just two batsmen reaching double figures. James Pace was high man with 31 while Lionel Cann made 23.

Raynor led the Southampton bowlers with four for 24, Burch had three for 24 and Brangman two for just one run.

Brangman was high scorer for Southampton with 41, Ricky Brangman followed with 30 and David Stoneham 14. Reginald Pitcher took two for 32.

Warwick 44 Willow Cuts 45-0 Willow Cuts made short work of Warwick at the Royal Naval field, winning by ten wickets.

Rodney Fubler and Garry Williams demolished Warwick with their fast bowling, Fubler taking six for 13 and Williams claiming three for 27.

Kevin Swan was the lone Warwick batsmen in double figures with 24. The innings included five ducks.

Brothers Dwight and Dwayne Basden needed just 17.2 overs to get the required runs with Dwight undefeated on 21 and Dwayne not out on 16.

Nationals 138 Western Stars 141-7 Western Stars defeated Nationals by three wickets, winning the game with just five balls to spare at Nationals.

Spinner Wayne Richardson was responsible for the modest total scored by Nationals when he took six for 43. Gary Brangman had two for 18 and Hasan Durham two for 35.

James Thomas was high man for Nationals with 31 while skipper Neil Speight was not out on 23.

Stars suffered a scare as they slumped to 56 for five but Cleon Scotland and Gary Brangman hit them out of trouble by adding 66 for the sixth wicket.

Scotland was not out with 38 while Brangman followed with 29. Andre Manders scored 17 and Jeff Richardson and Gregory Sampson 15 apiece. David Wright took three for 67, David Gibbs had two for 45 and Graham Strange two for 23.

Somerset Bridge 125 PHC 104-4 Close to two hours in rain delay prevented PHC from winning their second game of the season at White Hill where they and Somerset Bridge shared the points with a draw.

Bridge, fielding just 10 men, struggled and were fortunate to have two players in good form with Robin Swan scoring 54 not out and Brian Gibbons hitting 38.

Kallan Johnston took two for 16 and Charles Symons had two for 21.

With limited batting time, PHC only just failed to pull off the victory.

Sheridan Ming led their scoring with 48 while Mark Smith was not out with 23.

Kevin Dill scored 18.

Gary Crofton led the Bridge bowlers with two for 40.

Hamilton Parish 15-2 St. George's did not bat Rain was the big winner at Wellington Oval with the game being called after just five overs of play because of the wet conditions.

Cleveland 20-0 Devonshire Rec. did not bat Rain was also the winner at Devonshire Rec. where Cleveland batted for nine overs and were 20 without loss. Grant Smith was not out on 16 and Carlton Smith undefeated on four.
