after pleading guilty to possession of a crack pipe.

Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp was told Police came across David M. O'Brien in the early hours of May 4 on Rockville Lane, Pembroke, with the pipe in his possession.

Subsequent examination proved the presence of cocaine, said Police Prosecutor Sgt. Peter Giles, who added O'Brien had a previous conviction for possession dating back to May of 1990.

"For the past six years you've been involved with this stuff. Are you trying to kill yourself; do you have a problem, do you need help,'' said Ms Mapp before sentencing.

"I can only help myself,'' replied O'Brien.

"I take that as a no then,'' said Ms Mapp before handing down her fine.

BIRTHDAY PARTY GOT OUT OF HAND CTS Birthday party got out of hand A 27-year-old man whose birthday party got out of hand was yesterday fined $300 in Magistrates' Court for using offensive language.

Brenton J. Harris pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp after court heard Police were called to break up a fight on the night of September 13 at the Pier 6 nightclub on Front Street in Hamilton.

When officers arrived Harris began cursing at them, telling them "It's my (expletive) birthday.'' Police Prosecutor Sgt. Peter Giles added Harris had a prior offence of violently resisting arrest.

"Seems like your birthday celebration got a little out of hand,'' said Ms Mapp. "You seem to have a problem here and I suggest you don't drink in public again,'' she said before handing down her fine.

MAN FINED $225 FOR TRAFFIC OFFENCES CTS Man fined $225 for traffic offences Robert Pitcher of Texas Road, St. George's, yesterday shelled out $225 in Magistrates' Court for a traffic offences.

Police Prosecutor Sgt. Peter Giles told Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp that Pitcher was stopped on February 26, 1996 while driving on Frog Lane with no lights, no headgear, no insurance and no driver's licence.

He was again pulled over two days later on Kindley Field Road for similar offences.

Ms Mapp, after chastising Pitcher for wearing baggy shorts and a muscle shirt to court, told him because he was already under warrant and would have to immediately pay the fine.
