Confusion rather than confetti is raining with two rival wedding shows organised for this Sunday.

One show is set for Dockyard while the other takes place at Number One shed on Front Street at the same time - noon until 5 p.m.

Dockyard event organiser Shelly Hamill said she had booked her event in July and said her company, Bermuda Weddings and Special Events, had been running a bridal fair for eight years.

She said she had contacted rival presentation, the Bridal Fair and Fashion Show, in October when she became aware of the clash, which vendors were concerned with, but organiser Anthony Easton declined to move his event.

Mr. Easton's event is free but Ms Hamill's is $15 for adults and $5 for children.

Ms Hamill said she was confident brides would stick with her exhibition.

She said she had asked Mr. Easton to rearrange his event, adding: "I had spent quite some money - we have a budget of $10,000. We have 30 vendors."

She accused Mr. Easton of sour grapes by pushing ahead with his event even though he had sent out invitations after hers.

But Mr. Easton denied this and claimed his vendors had told him they were getting Ms Hamill's invites days after getting his.

Mr. Easton admitted their had been poor communication but said he had fallen out with Ms Hamill after exhibiting at one of her events.

He said: "I did her show, we became enemies, that was it."

He said he had advised vendors to pick the first invitation and denied Ms Hamill had contacted him about the problem in October. He said: "I have got 38 vendors.

"I would have moved my event but no one knew anything about hers."

One vendor told the The Royal Gazette their company had stuck with Mr. Easton's show because it had received his invitation first.
