Somerset remained firmly on course for the league and cup double after defeating neighbours Willow Cuts by 94 runs at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday.

The newly-crowned First Division limited overs champions piled up 266 runs for seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs after receiving valuable contributions from Reid Jones (49), Azeem Pitcher (45), Shannon Warner (37) and Wendell White (33).

Charles (Buckjuice) Swan and Ryane Shepperd were Cuts most successful bowlers with two wickets apiece.

Shepperd, making amends for a first-ball duck in Saturday?s Western Counties Final win over PHC, completed a fine-all-round showing by topping his team?s batting with 43 while all-rounder Bergon Spencer added 41.

Doing the damage for Somerset with the ball was teenager Maurico Bassett who claimed a remarkable four for 26 off only four overs and Shane Hollis who took three for 31 off seven overs before Cuts were dismissed in the 32nd over.
