Preston Bean, of Kitchen Close, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to assaulting a Warwick woman on September 20.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said the couple had been involved in a 12-year relationship but it had ended in March.

The woman was stopped in her car in Southampton when Bean pulled up, reached into her car window and took her car keys.

Sgt. Taylor said the pair argued and Bean slapped the woman in the face. He also tried to punch her but missed.

Bean eventually returned the car keys to the woman who drove off and reported the incident to Police.

Dion Burgess, of Camp Hill, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to drinking in the streets on December 4.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said Burgess was spotted sitting on a bike by patrolling Police officers around 9 p.m. on Woodlands Road.

While on the bike, Burgess was observed drinking beer by the officers.

Yesterday Burgess told Senior Magistrate Will Francis that he was celebrating a friend's birthday at the time of the incident.

"He had left me there and said he was coming back,'' he added.

Mr. Francis ordered Burgess to pay a $250 fine for drinking in public.

MAN REFUSED TO GIVE BREATH SAMPLE CTS Man refused to give breath sample Refusing to give Police a sample of breath yesterday cost a Southampton man $450.

Richard May, of the Southampton Princess Staff Quarters, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to refusing to give a sample of breath on November 11 on Lighthouse Road in Southampton.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said May was involved in a collision with an auxiliary cycle. Both bikes sustained damage.

Police officers at the scene of the accident noticed that May smelled of alcohol and that his speech was slurred.

Sgt. Taylor said May told Police that he had had a few drinks, but he refused to take the test.

Senior Magistrate Will Francis ordered May to pay a $450 fine and disqualified him from all vehicles for a year.
