The fire, started by an electrical fault, swept through one third of the 20ft by 60ft shed on St. Michael's Road, causing $7,000 damage.

Fire Service spokesman Lt. Jon Thompson said two engines helped battle the flames just before 2 p.m.

But he added: "The shed contained plants, bike and car parts, furniture and a go-kart.

"The kart was only slightly damaged but we estimated a loss running into thousands of dollars.'' Lt. Thompson also thanked an alert rooftop worker who dialled 911 after spotting the fire.
