Goater nets goal number 31
After missing out on Manchester City's promotion party at Barnsley last week, Shaun Goater began his belated celebrations in the best way possible - with a goal.
The City striker notched his 31st of a prolific season in the 3-1 away win at Gillingham.
Kevin Horlock put the visitors ahead on 20 minutes, finishing off a devastating five-man move with a deft lob.
However, the Gills hit back with an Iffy Onuora header on 34 minutes.
Parity was short-lived though with Goater volleying home after being teed up by Ali Benarbia's backheel on 38 minutes.
Substitute Darren Huckerby sealed the win in the closing stages when he seized on Marcus Browning's poor back pass and finished at the second attempt.
City, who have already wrapped up the First Division championship, announced after Saturday's game they had signed former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel from Aston Villa.
They play their final league match of the season at Maine Road next Sunday against Portsmouth.
