New DVD highlights benefits of pursuing technical career
Students across Bermuda will be informed about the means and benefits of pursuing a technical career through a new DVD issued by the National Training Board.
Launching the initiative, Minister of Education and Development Terry Lister said that the DVD featured real people who have made successes of themselves in a bid to encourage youngsters into technical training.
He explained that he had challenged the NTB to come up with ways of creating better informed and more career-minded senior students.
?We owe it to our students and young people searching for opportunity to increase our efforts to let them know what is possible,? said Mr Lister.
The DVD, which is the first in a planned series of six, is designed specifically to guide senior students through technical career planning and training immediately, rather that four to six years down the line.
It gives information on jobs including automotive technology, dental hygiene and marine piloting and provides contact information for institutions such as Bermuda College, New England Institute of Technology and Nova Scotia Community College.
It was handed out to students at CedarBridge Academy by the Minister at a launch event yesterday. He told them: ?The participants in the DVD are Bermudians who have achieved success in their respective careers, so you can see and hear from real people who have ?been there and done that?.
?I am certain that you will recognise relatives, friends or neighbours in the DVD.?
A total of 3,000 copies are set to be handed out to all senior students once school counsellors have been educated on how to employ it as a resource.
