Woman injured in crash

Residents along Middle Road in Warwick were awakened by the sounds of a head-on collision yesterday morning which left one person in hospital and a 19-year-old Smith's man arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police spokesman, Dwayne Caines, said the teenager was travelling West along Middle Road and lost control about 20 metres from the entrance to the Belmont Golf Course when he collided head-on with a car travelling east.

The collision was so severe that both cars were written off and by late yesterday afternoon one of the cars remained on the scene, its rear hanging over the entrance wall to the Belmont.

Residents woken by the sound rushed outside and watched as fire crews battled to cut the injured woman from the car.

She was taken to hospital where she was treated for a fractured right arm and released later in the day.
