allow planning officials the chance to visit the site.

Bostock Mews Development is planning to build five units, a swimming pool and a gazebo on a 0.72 acre, sloping piece of land between Bostock Hill East and Dudley Hill in Paget.

But 17 objections have been sent to the Development Applications Board by residents of the area.

And one resident told The Royal Gazette there were actually more than 40 objectors in total.

The home owners are protesting the development with a number of concerns which include fears of increased traffic, noise, general overcrowding and argue "the character of the development is wholly out of keeping with the area''.

Lawyer Juliana Jack, another objector, said the development had no regard for the residential amenity of the neighbourhood and would destroy it.

"I think that it's a terrible thing if they let this thing go by,'' objector Irving Wilkinson added. "I just think that it's ridiculous.'' The developer listed on planning documents is Calvin Simons and the architects handling the project are Entasis Architecture.

Entasis architect Michael Emery declined to reveal the name of the developer whom, he added, did not wish to comment on the matter. Instead he wanted to leave it to Planning officials for their decision.

According to Planning, documents the property is currently vacant with an open field, banana and Pride of India trees, and sugar cane.

Half of the site has a conservation area designation of agricultural.

The proposed development will create three separate buildings clustered around the gazebo and pool on the residentially zoned portion of the land.

One of the buildings will be three storeys tall while the others have two floors.

The developers revised original plans -- "in the interest of goodwill'' -- to increase a northeastern setback from ten to 20 feet, and to reduce the number of entrances from two to one.

And they stated they were willing to increase the width of the private estate road for easier access.

A meeting was also held earlier this month between the developers and residents.
