Police confirmed last night that the women were driving along Cedar Avenue, Pembroke, on Saturday when they spotted the girl and jumped out to confront her.

A Police spokesman said the argument, which was a "personal dispute,'' got heated and the women attacked the girl.

The assault was broken up by an off-duty Police officer who was in the area.

No one has yet been charged and Police inquiries are continuing.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a brutal assault that left a Sandys man in critical condition on January 4.

Police were called to the scene near St. Monica's Mission, Pembroke, on Thursday night.

The 28-year-old victim had either been beaten by the time Police arrived or the attack was suspended while Police searched the area.

Hospital officials say the man is in stable condition in a general ward.

A Police spokesman said: "The Major Incident Room is appealing for any witnesses -- and are particularly interested in speaking to nearby residents who may have witnessed part of the attack, as well as the taxi driver that conveyed the victim to hospital.
