CellularOne orders high speed technology

CellularOne has placed an order for one of the most up-to-date fixed wireless voice and broadband products on the marketplace, which will be able to give broadband data speeds of up to 3.1 mega bits per second to computers and laptops in any room of a home or office.

The technology is expected to go on sale to customers in Bermuda this May.

California-based Axesstel has designed and developed the new MV 420 3G Gateway device and intends to begin shipping the devices to Bermuda Digital Communications, which operates CellularOne, in April with the expectation that customers will be able to buy the new technology in early May.

“The quality and reliability we experienced with Axesstel’s Rev O modems strongly factored into our decision to purchase the new 3G Gateway,” Bermuda Digital Communications’ chief executive officer Kurt Eve stated.

“By offering the MV420 we will now have the opportunity to increase subscriber numbers by serving more market segments including residential, small business and some vertical market businesses needing broadband access while working remotely across the Island.”

The device is described as an easy to use gateway that connects desktop and laptop computers to broadband data at 3.1 megabits per second.

Axesstel’s senior vice president Murray Kawchuk said: “Booking the first purchase order on our MV400 series from CellularOne, an existing customer and well respected operator, is a strong testament to the quality, reliability and innovation of Axesstel’s broadband data solutions.

“We are seeing an increased number of operators worldwide currently testing our 3G gateways and broadband USB modems, and anticipate more wins as operators complete testing.”

The new device will work through CellularOne’s upgraded wireless data network CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A, which was announced last November. It operates on the 800 MHz frequency.
