The Gilbert & Sullivan Society has chosen ‘Fiddler on the Roof' as this year's major production. Performance dates will be October 8-19, and include a Sunday matinee. The 50-plus cast will be headed by Ron Campbell in the lead role of Tevye, with Karen Stroeder as his wife Goldie. Other principal roles go to Jeane Butterfield as Tzeitel, Jennie Campbell as Hodel, Kelsey Bacon as Chava, Rhona Vallender as Yelte, Matthew Neste as Perchik, Nick Cardinez as Motel, Shawn Angiers as Lazarwolf, and Richard Diamond as Mordcha.
The award-winning African-American Artists Series video, ‘Robert Colescott: The One-Two Punch' screens today at the Bermuda National Gallery at 12.30 p.m. Colescott is an artist whose images are strong, dramatic and colourful, and his canvases portray racial and gender stereotypes with humour, irony and sarcasm. His story, as told in the 28-minute video, compels viewers to open their minds. Admission is free.
Friday marks the last of two happy hour parties at the Bermuda National Gallery to celebrate its new summer exhibitions. Music, body art and food are included the 5.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. event. Admission is $10 for members, $20 for others.
Earmark June 28 and 29 for the Native American Festival hosted by the St. David's Island Historical Society Indian Connection Committee. The gala event will be held at St. David's cricket field starting at 2 p.m. Admission will be $5 for adults and $2 for children.
An exhibition of Betsy Mulderig's ‘Famous Onions' series of oil paintings is on indefinite display in the BF&M Building on Front Street West.
