Shadow Attorney General Trevor Moniz urged Government to follow through with action after the completion of a review of Bermuda?s legal system.

On Friday Attorney General Larry Mussenden announced the setting up of The Justice Review Committee, headed by Acting Chief Justice Norma Wade-Miller, which must report back by the end of next month.

Mr. Moniz criticised the lack of action on building a new Hamilton Police station and said now officers were operating out of a caravan office.

The land had been available six years ago for the new site on Court Street said Mr. Moniz but every year a token sum was budgeted for the new building.

?Every year they put aside one million, it will cost about $50 million so in 50 years we?ll have enough money.?

He added: ?It?s important there?s the political will to follow up with action on the report.

?I first asked for a review of the justice system in 2000 and have asked for it every year since.

?I see the PLP have adopted my request. However I am disappointed the report will go to the Attorney General. I would expect it to be tabled in the House of Assembly. I would like to see the report made public.

?And the mix of people on the committee is a little strange.?

He questioned why Department of Public Prosecutions Crown Counsel Juan Wolffe was on the committee rather than the Director Kulandra Ratneser.

Similarly he wondered why Solicitor General Wilhelm Bourne had been overlooked and why Rod Attride-Stirling had been chosen from the Bar Council rather than its president David Kessaram.

He said: ?It seems they have picked more PLP sympathetic people.?
