The first black Commandant of the Reserve Police, Eugene Vickers, will pass the top job on to Commandant designate, Huw Lewis this week.

A change of command ceremony will be held at Police Headquarters in Prospect, tomorrow at 6 p.m. Commandant Vickers became Commandant on September 30, 1999 and has served in the volunteer service of Police Reserves for 40 years.

He joined the Reserves as a constable in 1964 at the age of 24 and steadily worked his way up the ladder.

He was instrumental in getting scooters, cars, and radios for the Reserves, as well as becoming the first Commandant with responsibility for the Reserve Police budget, said Police spokesman Robin Simmons.

Mr. Lewis has served on the Bermuda Reserve Police for 25 years.

Mr. Simmons said: ?Throughout his years of service he has shown dedication and commitment, and was promoted through the ranks to become Deputy Commandant on September 30, 1999.?

There will be a number of local and overseas dignitaries attending the ceremony, including overseas Police officers who have worked with the Bermuda Reserve Police in the past.
