A valuable private island, which engaged multi-millionaires in a lengthy court battle nearly a decade ago, remains on the market after 18 months.

At just over eight acres, Perot's Island on Southampton is being described by realtors Coldwell Banker JW Bermuda Realty as "one of the most extensive private shorelines in Bermuda".

The estate includes a three-storey 17,000 square foot main residence, recreation facilities, several docks, boathouse, greenhouse and more.

"The romantic idea of owning a private island appeals to all, yet only a few have the opportunity to do so," reads the advert, placed in The Royal Gazette.

"The island nature of the estate affords maximum privacy and desirability, as there are few estates of this magnitude in Bermuda."

The realtors were unwilling to name the price, nor the name of the seller, but the Land Valuation list states that Marion MacMillan is listed as the owner of Number 1 and 3 Perot's Island.

It was put up for sale last year but the realtor was unwilling to comment in any interest in buying the property, which is available to "Bermudians and overseas purchasers".

In 1993, American heiress Ms MacMillan and Canadian trucking tycoon MIchael DeGroote were embroiled in a lengthy and expensive fight over ownership of the property.

Mr. DeGroote won his fight which began when Ms MacMillan backed out of an agreement made in 1990 to sell the property to Mr. DeGroote for $8.5m

Ms MacMillan appealed the decision and then Mr. DeGroote abandoned his claim after getting "fed up and frustrated with the system".
