Bermuda received free publicity this week on Fox News? top rated The O?Reilly Factor, hosted by the ?in-your-face? host, humorist Bill O?Reilly.

James Howes, Bermuda International Airport general manager, told The Royal Gazette that he e-mailed Bill O?Reilly, the in-your-face host of the show, and told the political pundit his show could now be viewed on the Island.

The talk show host reads e-mails during his programme and after reading Mr. Howes? letter he said: ?You live in a beautiful place. I love Bermuda.?

CableVision?s new digital line now provides the Island with the Fox News Channel. The Fox website claims the news channel is the number one prime time cable news channel.

A youth was jumped for his sneakers, gold chains, cell phones, and cash on Friday night.

The victim, a 16-year-old Hamilton parish boy told Police he went to a house on Sunset Pass, Pembroke with the thief. The Hamilton parish boy waiting to his motorcycle while the thief went around the back of the house.

A short time later he reappeared and put the boy in a headlock stealing two gold chains, two cell phones, $7, and a pair of grey and red Nike Air Force One sneakers. The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, athletic build, five feet, nine inches tall, with a large Afro, a mustache, and a very flat nose.

He was wearing a yellow basketball jersey with a white t-shirt under it, grey sweatpants and yellow and white sneakers. Anyone with information is asked to call 295-0011.

A motorist collided with a wall on Curving Avenue, Pembroke last Saturday night.

He lost control of his motorcycle before hitting the wall. Head injuries were sustained but not believed to be life threatening. After the incident he was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. On Sunday afternoon he was reported in stable condition.

The demolition of buildings at Bakery Lane in Pembroke has been given the go-ahead by the Development Applications Board.

The site currently houses Island Cleaning Services, whose owner Richard Thompson said a new warehouse and offices were planned.

?We?re planning to upgrade and attract great additional revenue,? Mr. Thompson said.

Three contractors are bidding for the job. Mr. Thompson said the original intention was to start demolishing the building by the end of the summer. Island Cleaning Services will also have to move offices. Potential tenants of the new facility have yet to be finalised.

The building is planned to be 17,000 sq. ft. and Mr. Thompson said the budget is two to two and a half-million dollars.

Government is still planning to have parking for ferry commuters at the Belmont Hotel, although it cannot set a date because of Works and Engineering?s heavy schedule.

Government last year struck a deal with the owners of the Belmont in Paget for a car park for ferry users which can hold cars, bikes and a minibus.

Transport Permanent Secretary Marc Telemaque said yesterday that the exact configuration of the car park was still under discussion.

It was still a ?firm commitment? to build the car park, he said, and although Works and Engineering could not give a firm date, he hoped it would be ?sooner rather than later?.

The Red Cross will operate special booths in Hamilton to sell raffle tickets and first aid kits on Thursday to raise awareness on its activities during Red Cross Month.

All proceeds are going towards the Red Cross dinner dance held every summer.

Volunteers will also be handing out pins and brochures on various services that the Red Cross provides like: courses in CPR, first aid, and babysitting or how to donate blood.

The booths will be at the Reid Street and Rosebank branches of the Bank of Butterfield, the Front Street and Par-La-Ville Road branches of the Bank of Bermuda, Miles Supermarket, the Supermart and Washington Mall.

World Red Cross Day, May 8, celebrates the birthday of Henry Dunant who founded the organisation in Geneva, Switzerland in 1863. He won the first ever Nobel Peace Prize in 1901 for this accomplishment.

Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said the system will enable user-friendly access to vital information.

He said at a click of a mouse it is possible to search a name and make cross searches linking many forms of international crime investigations in seconds.

?This also allows for the speedy transmission of essential information on key fugitives and missing persons to all member countries.?
