Harsh reception

The tables were turned on a would-be thief when he was chased and hit with a fireplace shovel by the home's owner.

Police are investigating the Warwick Lane, Warwick, break-in, which took place on Monday afternoon.

The complainant heard noises in his kitchen and went downstairs to investigate. The 31-year-old suspect, from Warwick, fled after exchanging words with the homeowner.

The homeowner soon caught up with the suspect, who dropped a knife and chisel after being hit with a shovel.

The suspect was held until Police arrived and then arrested.

Lock up your homes

Police are warning homeowners, particularly in the Devonshire and Warwick area, to lock their homes and not to leave large sums of money lying around. It comes after burglaries last weekend including five in Devonshire, four in Pembroke, two in Warwick and one in Smith's and Southampton.
