Will sports complex be a perfect fit?

A new sports complex boasting a 25-metre swimming pool and a large gymnasium is planned for construction at Sandys Secondary Middle School and could be ready in 18 months.

Speaking to yesterday, headmaster Melvyn Bassett confirmed planning permission is now being sought for the project which has been eight years in the planning and stands to benefit both students and the local community.

?It has been a long time coming,? Mr. Bassett conceded.

?Financing is the main problem. Government has committed to putting up some of the funding but we have not had the response from the corporate community we were hoping for. We are currently appealing to our ex-scholars to come on board and contribute as well.

?Once complete, students both from the school and our feeder schools will be able to use the facility, while in the evenings and during the summer holidays, members of the community will also be allowed in. It should be a real asset.?
