Police yesterday released the name of the 59-year-old tourist who drowned in Bermuda?s waters on Thursday.

Dr. Jermias Dubyk, a visitor from Springfield, New Jersey, died on Thursday afternoon after snorkelling at Cross Bay Beach in Southampton.

Dr. Dubyk, who practised gynaecology and obstetrics in Newark, New Jersey, was visiting the Island with his wife and 12 year-old son and had been staying at the Wyndham Bermuda Resort .

According to the hotel?s management, Mrs. Dubyk and her son ?were doing well considering the situation?, but did not wish to speak to the local media. They are scheduled to leave the Island today.

Dr. Dubyk had been snorkelling at the beach, which is off Sinky Bay Road, Thursday afternoon when he began showing signs of troubles while swimming. At 2.45 p.m. Police received a call telling them that there was a swimmer in difficulty. Police arrived not long after, but by the time Dr. Dubyk was retrieved from the water he was in an unresponsive state.

Despite being given CPR at the scene and then being rushed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by ambulance, Dr. Dubyk died a shot time after arriving at the hospital.
