Three drink drivers were yesterday ordered to pay fines of $1,000 each or spend three months in prison and were banned from driving all vehicles for one year.

They all pleaded guilty to either driving under the influence or refusing to take a blood alcohol test ? equivalent offences under the law.

Twenty-year-old Tarik Jani Hill, of Souza Estate, Devonshire, tried to get away from the Police when they noticed him driving erratically on the Causeway late last month.

Police followed him, signalled him to stop but he refused. When they caught up with him he admitted to having had a few beers but refused to take the test.

Jermaine Vincent Pond, 28, also tried to evade Police when he led them on a chase along Mullet Bay Road, St. George?s.

He accelerated the car he was driving ? without a licence ? and turned into a side road. Pond then got out of the car and fell into the water and began swimming towards a boat.

The officers left the scene after calling in plainclothes policemen who arrested him as soon as he returned to the shore.

And 30-year-old Craig Outerbridge was arrested when Police noticed him cross into Front Street from Court Street without stopping.

He was swerving from one side of the road to the other and promptly stopped.

Outerbridge admitted having had a few beers once arrested. In court he promised to ?take a taxi next time?.
