Five Star Alliance have picked Cambridge Beaches as one of the world's best luxurious beach resorts and the spot that experts at Five Star Alliance recommend most often.

Out of a list of 14 resorts, including Copacabana Palace in Brazil, Amanpuri in Thailand, Las Ventanas in Mexico and Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica in the US, Cambridge Beaches was picked for its "timeless sanctuary of luxurious cottage accommodations, sparkling azure waters, endless views and beautiful beaches".

Five Star Alliance, an online group founded to bring travellers the most comprehensive information on the ultimate collection of luxury hotels world-wide, offers exclusive insight into the upscale segment of the industry.

Cambridge Beaches is the oldest resort of its kind and whereas the cottage style, independent rooms scattered across the property are now very common, they weren't 100 years ago.

It is rumoured that the concept for the old and very popular resorts started after multi-millionaire John D. Rockefeller stayed at Cambridge Beaches.

Owner Mike Winfield said one of the buildings is almost 300 years old that was built by a privateer, but the resort also has cottages that have been named after many time return guests, and there are many children and companies out there that are named after cottages at Cambridge Beaches.

Mr. Winfield has passionately dedicated himself to Cambridge Beaches for 22 years.

President and CEO since 1997, he served as general manager for the resort starting in 1983 and prior to that, he served as manager for the largest resort on Bermuda, the Fairmont Southampton Hotel.

Mr. Winfield said this week that he was always pleased when the property received international recognition.

"Certainly on this site we have been placed with some of the finest resorts in the world and I know that the shareholders and staff of Cambridge Beaches will be delighted to have their commitment to excellence recognised. But I have to say this only renews our determination towards excellence," he said.
