charges in Magistrates' Court in connection with a late May crime spree involving various Island hotels.

On May 30 and 31, prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy told the court, Andre Hypolite broke his way into hotel rooms at the Astwood Cove Resort, Cambridge Beaches and Newstead, stealing some $300 in cash, a Seiko watch, a $100 filofax and an $80 pair of sunglasses.

"All matters relate to guest accommodations,'' the prosecutor said, adding that the four charges represented the most serious of some 70 others that were not levelled against Hypolite but are to be taken into consideration during his sentencing.

The 70 charges, Insp. Duffy stated further, amounted to a total of $135,620 in stolen cash and goods.

Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp, calling Hypolite's long criminal history "very sad'', sent the matter to the Supreme Court.

Hypolite, who was remanded into custody, is to be sentenced in that court on July 7.

"I don't think you have even had a life, Mr. Hypolite,'' the Magistrate said at one point. "You've spent so much time committing crimes.'' Responded Hypolite, who cited a childhood in foster homes and correctional facilities and substance abuse after the death of his child as reasons for his life of crime: "The system has done this to me.''
