Construction to affect parking

Almost all cycle parking at City Hall will be eliminated by the temporary bus terminal that is to be set up on Dismont Drive.

The Royal Gazette estimates 200 cycle parking spaces will be lost, which Mayor of Hamilton Lawson Mapp confirmed yesterday though he would not estimate the number himself. Mr. Mapp said temporary cycle spaces will be available behind City Hall though the number of temporary spots pales in comparison to the number being eliminated.

When asked if the Corporation of Hamilton would lift the one-hour limit on marked cycle parking spaces in town, Mr. Mapp said no. He said cyclists already have a good parking situation since it is free compared to people driving cars who have to pay to park in the City whether for an hour or for the day.

This situation could potentially last for some time. The new bus terminal was originally planned to be finished by September, but it has already been delayed until December at the earliest.
