Argus Argonauts six-a-six champs
Kevin Ronaldson led Argus Argonauts to the football six-a-side title when they comfortably beat KPMG 4-0 in the final at Saltus Field yesterday.Ronaldson, who scored some 15 goals in the two-day tournament, kept up his good scoring form with two goals in the first five minutes of the final as Argus took early control of the match.Ronaldson, who plays in the Premier League for Flanagan’s Onions, came close to completing his hat-trick two minutes into the second half when he smashed a shot against the corner of the framework.The Argonauts made certain of the overall title when Ronaldson laid on a pass for John Knight to score and Nacori Smith completed the rout with a low left-footed shot from close range as they finished the tournament undefeated after going through the group play on Saturday undefeated from three matches to win Pool 3 with 12 points.“We just wanted to come out and have some fun, we had some training sessions building up to it, but it was just a fun thing and we didn’t expect too much,” said Ronaldson. “We had eight games in two days so I definitely feel tired.“It was a good event, well organised and we’re glad to win, really. It was a good day for Argus, we’ve got the women’s team out supporting us so we’ll have a celebration.”Catlin All-Stars won Pool One with 14 points while AWAC finished a point behind.Renaissance Re clinched third place when they beat ACE 2-0 in the third place match.The Over 30s division was won by BMA Regulators who stopped Bermuda Police 3-1 in the final.In Pool Two standings Digicel and Fire Service finished on 13 points from three wins and a draw but Digicil took the top spot on goal difference (plus seven to plus four). Renaissance Re were third on 10 points while Argonauts provided the only women’s team who lost all their matches in Pool Two.KPMG topped Pool Four with eight points with a win and two draws while ACE finished second on six points.More photos and reports, see Page 14 and 15.
