What do we do at The Reading Clinic? The Reading Clinic is a not-for-profit educational organisation dedicated to helping individuals who experience difficulties in learning.

Services offered include consultations; psychoeducational assessments; review of reports from schools; liaison with schools; advocacy for modifications in instruction; one-on-one tutoring for dyslexia; tutor training; professional development programmes; teacher training; conferences and workshops.

Individuals whose difficulty is diagnosed as that of dyslexia may be enrolled in the tutoring programme. An average of 60 students are in the programme at any one time.

These students are tested annually to monitor their progress. If it is more appropriate for a person's needs, they are referred to the private services affiliated with The Reading Clinic or elsewhere.

Staff at The Reading Clinic are employed part-time or on a consultancy basis.

This allows them to offer diverse expertise while keeping operating costs down. The Reading Clinic relies on volunteers with specific skills to carry out much of the administrative work.

Fees are charged for assessments and tutoring; however, individuals may apply for financial assistance with the cost of these services by completing a 'financial need' application which is reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.

BOLD (a parent support group associated with the Learning Disabilities Association of Bermuda) and The Inter Agency Planning Committee (representatives of organisations whose work involves the needs of children) hold regular meetings at The Reading Clinic.

The Reading Clinic serves as a resource centre for many professionals, parents and students. It is a member of The International Dyslexia Association (U.S.A.) and The British Dyslexia Association. The Library contains up-to-date information and research obtained from these organisations as well as videos and books relating to a variety of learning differences.
