Angelo Cannonier delivered a captain's performance to steer St.David's another step closer to promotion at the Wellington Oval.

Cannonier struck two second half goals against promotion rivals St. George's yesterday to put Warriors on track to claim the second place promotion spot.

Following Somerset Trojans' 3-1 win over Wolves on Saturday night, St.David's were in desperate need of a victory – and they didn't disappoint their supporters who made the short journey to the home of near-neighbours St.George's with Cannonier leading the fight with an impressive brace.

St.David's coach Eugene Crockwell said: "It's always special to beat St.George's as they are biggest rivals on the Island. Angelo was very impressive today and showed his quality with his two goals."

Cannonier's first came just after half-time as he cut inside one defender before dispatching an angled shot into the far corner of the net.

He was in on the act again soon after when the hosts failed to clear their lines from a left wing cross with Cannonier the first to react.

The burly marksman should have had a hat-trick had he not blazed over the bar at the end of the first half.

At Garrison Field, Stefon Swan got a double to pace his side to an emphatic win over helpless Paget.

Brian Anderson got the ball rolling before Uthmani Talbot and Garnell Darrell put their names on the score sheet. Swan scored either side of a Khomeini Talbot strike to make the score line a miserable one for Lions.
