A private jet was used yesterday to fly relief goods to Jamaica that were donated by the Salvation Army while another flight is set to leave today for the Cayman Islands.

Longtail Aviation provided a Falcon 900B jet to transport goods to Jamaican's battered by Hurricane Ivan, last week.

Head of flight operations at Longtail Aviation, Marty Amick, said last night that an awful lot of supplies were loaded into the jet including: bags of rice, infant formula, cans of soup, plastic sheeting, water, medical supplies, and tarpaulin.

Dr. Monica Hoefert helped to gather medical supplies from different suppliers on the Island.

Yesterday, BGA Wholesale Distributor, Hamilton Pharmacy, Robertson's Drug Store, Dr. Hoefert's and Dr. Andrew West's office donated medical supplies to be loaded on the Jamaica flight.

She said that Southside Pharmacy, the Pheonix Drug Store, in Hamilton, Collector's Hill Apothecary, and Paget Pharmacy have already agreed to donate more medical supplies for today's flight to the Cayman Islands.

"Everyone has been a great help, she said, but it has been a bit difficult gathering all of the supplies."

She added that if anyone had gauze, bandages, or first aid supplies to donate it would be very helpful.

The flight left at 1.30 p.m. yesterday and arrived in Jamaica about two hours and 45 minutes later, said Mr. Amick.
