Sad hires three people in pilot employment scheme
through a pilot job scheme.
Group spokesperson Mrs. Eugenie Simmons said work would begin Monday for the individuals involved.
"We recognised that there are some individuals in the area who are not substance abusers, or if they use, use very infrequently,'' she said. "Much of their problem stemmed from just being unemployed.
"We've been having on-going meetings and approaching prospective employers,'' she said. "Because it's a pilot scheme we're going to keep it very small, less than a dozen initially until we get a handle on it.
"We'd like to eventually see the people permanently placed or move onto another permanent position and maybe slot someone else in their place.'' Mrs. Simmons said the scheme was organised by Mr. Eugene Cox MP, Capt. Mark Cummings of the Salvation Army and Mr. Gladwin Woods, who once hung out at the field but has since been rehabilitated.
"It's amazing how support for SAD has come in from all segments of society,'' she said. "We've talked about this programme but the people are so receptive.
I don't know if it's because the time has come or because of the way SAD operates, it's just that we've seen results.
"As far as neighbourhood watch within Somerset we have various neighbours and committee groups we've been meeting with residents to develop strategies for neighbourhoods to protect and prevent the build-up of problems within areas.''
