yesterday after he admitted that he breached his probation order.

Sheppard 36, of no fixed address, was earlier this year sentenced to three years probation.

A condition of his probation was that he receive treatment for his drug abuse as part of his sentence for a series of thefts and assaults.

Sheppard was before the courts last March and he was ordered to spend one year at a Salvation Army rehabilitation centre in Ontario, Canada.

He had committed a series of offences which included one incident where he stole $80 from Burrows Lightbourn in Somerset on September 19 and $240 from Lines Food and Liquor Mart in Warwick on September 20.

In the course of the incident in Warwick he also assaulted two Lines employees during the theft.

Consequently, Chief Justice Austin Ward ordered that Sheppard be taken directly from the Westgate Correctional Facility to the Airport to board a flight to Canada.

And upon his return to Bermuda, Mr. Justice Ward said, Sheppard would enter a follow-up work programme for two years and pay back the money he had stolen from Lines Food and Liquor Mart.

At the time Sheppard assured the court that he would be a model citizen upon returning to the Island.

However Sheppard found himself in breach of his probation ordered on March 14 and was re-arrested.

Before sentence was passed Sheppard said he "made no excuses for his actions'' and he thanked the Salvation army and his former employer for their assistance.
