With the issue of the Meyer Agencies Commercial Division Group A title settled, eyes were turned to the relegation battle where it appears that

The west end club came up 5-4 losers in a crucial battle against Forties on Saturday and, while still mathematically alive in their quest to remain among the top division, are not likely to maintain that status.

Last night had them due to play Island Rangers, the only team they can still catch, in their final outing with a large margin of victory a must.

Against Forties, Extros paid the price for starting the contest minus a player, quickly falling behind 2-0, before coming back to tie and move ahead 3-2.

However, the visitors retook the lead and went into the half on top 4-3 before extending to 5-3 early upon the restart. Somerset pulled another goal back, but the equaliser proved elusive as Forties ensured their survival for at least another season.

Forties' Brian Fubler aided in the demise of Extros with a hat-trick while other tallies came from Rob Jones and Barry Hughes. Kevin Bailey (two), Stevie Riley and Jerry-Lynn Simons replied for Extros.

For KPMG, it was a case of too little, too late as they gained nothing in a 6-2 thrashing of Spinning Wheel except meaningless consolation.

Stuart Drake, Gary Knight, Ian McCraken, Neil Krementz, John Ingham and Maury Briers scored for KPMG while Chris Furbert and Stevie Tucker knocked in goals for Wheel.

Meanwhile, Exiles made certain of their own survival after a 2-2 draw with Island Rangers at Malabar field.

Edwin Ford and Antoine Cannonier both were on target for Exiles while Michael Bremar (penalty) and Troy Berkeley were Rangers' marksmen.

BAA Wanderers completed another successful league campaign with a confident 3-1 triumph over Robin Hood as Eric Jones, Trevor Gillis and Steve Irvine each got on the scoresheet.

In Group B, North Village Rams confirmed themselves as one new promotee while the other spot remains up for grabs.

In the one match played, Devonshire All-Stars defeated St. George's All-Stars 3-1 while Rams and Lobster Pot both won by default over Prison Officers and Fire Service respectively.

BAA Telecom wrapped up their fifth successive league championship when they beat Rude Girls in a make-up match last weekend, which also keeps alive their hopes of the league and Challenge Cup double.

However, the 3-0 triumph came at a price when influential sweeper Earlene Wilkinson suffered a broken ankle in the second half and will miss the rest of the season.

The setback came just a few minutes after BAA had taken the lead. Christina Johnson went close in the 60th minute when she dribbled past her defender and shot at goal.

However, Wilkinson made a tackle to deflect the ball out of danger but broke her ankle in the process. She was replaced by newcomer Carola Cooper.

Rude Girls made a strong start as they kept BAA deep in their own half for the first 20 minutes as BAA looked very disorganised.

Dionne Lambe, making her debut in goal because of the absence of Cassandra Trott and substitute 'keeper Sonya Smith, did an excellent job keeping Rude Girls at bay.

They could have taken the lead in the seventh minute when Johnson slotted the ball past Lambe only to see it hit the upright. Another chance was missed minutes later by Chevonne Washington.

BAA missed a few chances themselves in the first half before taking the lead in the 30th minute when Samantha Adams intercepted a pass in midfield, carried the ball through the middle and then passed to Cassandra Wales who scored past Erica Russell.

BAA looked more organised in the second half but still had to deal with Rude Girls pressure as Johnson missed two golden opportunities in the first nine minutes.

BAA scored against the run of play in the 55th minute when Wales took a pass from Maria Smith and dribbled into the penalty box before lifting a shot to the goalkeeper's left.

BAA reshuffled their team after the injury to Wilkinson with Terry Lynn Paynter dropping back into the sweeper's position and Adams from midfield to stopper. They put the game out of Rude Girls' reach in the 76th minute after being awarded an indirect free kick inside the 18-yard box.

Maria Smith tapped the ball to Paynter who drove a low shot into goal.

Wales had two good scoring chances in the dying minutes.

Fifteen-year-old Adams had an excellent game for BAA and certainly lived up to her nickname `Nuisance'.

There is still one final round of league matches remaining but the date has not yet been set.
