Education Minister the Hon. Clarence Terceira revealed this yesterday during a Press conference to introduce the interim board of governors for the school to be built at Prospect by 1997, for some 1,200 teenagers.

The 14-member team -- headed by Bermuda Electric Light Company president Mr.

Garry Madeiros -- consist of several former teachers, including Harbourmaster co-owner and wife of former Education Minister the Hon. Gerald Simons Ms Sheilagh Robertson, lawyer Mr. Mark Pettingill, and Conyers, Dill and Pearman human resource manager Miss Sandra Cann. (See list for other members).

"These are people who care about public education in Bermuda and who are prepared to make that commitment,'' Dr. Terceira said. "They will become the first champions for a project that will have great impact for Bermuda schools and Bermuda students.'' The board will officially meet for the first time in two weeks.

It was also expected to meet with Dr. Terceira and education officials.

Dr. Terceira said one of its first and "most important tasks'' will be to help in the selection of a principal.

"This is a task that will begin in the very near future,'' he said.

Last December, Dr. Terceira confirmed that the principal was not expected to be a Bermudian.

It was likely a head teacher from abroad with experience of working in a large school will be appointed, he said.

But he quickly added that the deputy principal will be a Bermudian who will be trained to "eventually take over that position''.

The interim board will also help select a name for the school.
