Streetsweeper Joseph Fray was struck by a Public Transportation Board bus shortly after 12 p.m. at the junction of Cedar Avenue and Church Street.

On Friday, PTB assistant director Dan Simmons told The Royal Gazette that Mr.

Fray apparently came into contact with the side of the bus and its rear wheel.

He claimed there was no way for the bus driver to know what was about to happen.

"I don't know how that happened, whether he tripped, he fell, did not see the bus or what. We can say with surety that it was not a frontal impact. It was not seen until they heard the impact.'' Mr. Simmons added: "We have an accident prevention committee who will look into it in great detail.'' He declined to comment on what could happen to the driver if he was found to be at fault.

Meanwhile Mr. Fray remains in the Intensive Care Unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
