prosecution against a person caring for three horses found neglected and starving.

Last month the horses were taken into care by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Agriculture Department after being found in a shack on St. Augustine's Hill.

All were taken to a farm, but on Friday it was confirmed two had been put to death. One had a nasal tumour and the other was suffering from bad feet. The third horse was said to be recovering quite well.

Assistant director of Agriculture Mr. Kevin Monkman said a file on the case was being prepared for the Attorney General, Mr. Elliott Mottley.

"We are preparing that file with a view to a possible prosecution. Statements have been taken and evidence collected. The AG will direct if there is enough evidence for a prosecution,'' said Mr. Monkman.

When the horses were found, the ribs on all three were clearly visible and one walked with a heavy limp. They had been kept in a half-built house that was split into three small areas for the animals. The shack was surrounded by waste ground with no area for exercise or grazing.
