A total of four individuals were involved in the incident which took place outside the Spinning Wheel nightclub on Court Street on March 13 of this year.

Prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told the court that two officers had been patrolling Court Street in an unmarked Police car.

Det. Con. Peter Morgan and Det. Con. David Small noticed a crowd had gathered outside of the nightclub and investigated.

Sgt. Grant said the officers found a man and a woman -- who were later identified as Lamel Steede, 21, of Swan's Bay Hill, Pembroke and Kennisha Mallory, 21, of Poinciana Road, Devonshire -- fighting.

The officers separated them and tried to put Steede in the back of their car to remove him from the scene in order to diffuse the situation.

Sgt. Grant said Steede resisted and his sister Lauren Steede, 19, of Elliott Street, Pembroke, his friend Janhi Saltus, 19, of School's Drive, Devonshire, and Mallory attempted to stop the officers from taking him away.

He said the officers then called for assistance when the group began using offensive language and physical resistance.

All four youths were arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station where they continued to use foul language and racial slurs, Det. Con. Morgan said.

Lamel was charged with fighting in a public place, assaulting a Police officer and trying to escape Police custody.

Saltus and Lauren were each charged with assaulting two Police officers.

Mallory was charged with fighting in a public place and helping Lamel Steede try to escape Police custody.

Acting Magistrate the Wor. Edward Bailey told the youths he was not impressed by "this kind of thing happening in our community''.

The four were released on bail.
