Kyle Lightbourne may finally get his wish after all ? a full-strength Bermuda squad. The Island?s national football coach yesterday revealed that his squad, set to take on Major League Soccer (MLS) side New England Revolution at the National Sports Centre (NSC) on March 3, could be bolstered by the likes of overseas players Damon Ming, Shaun Goater, Kevin Richards and recently crowned Male Athlete of the Year, John Barry Nusum.

And while the bulk of Lightbourne?s squad that took on Santos B side last month has remained intact, the former Coventry City striker revealed that Somerset Trojans? Jelani Scott, Dandy Town ?keeper Cymande Davis and North Village?s Vernon Tankard and Kentoine Jennings are currently being considered as possible new additions to the national team.

?We are in talks at the moment trying to put something in place,? confirmed Lightbourne yesterday.

?I?m hoping that we can bring John, Kevin, Shaun and Damon Ming back for the match because I know New England will bring along a strong side and so I would also like for us to be able to field our strongest XI.

?But I can?t confirm whether or not these players will actually be back for the match because we are still negotiating at the moment.?

With the national team set to take on the Revolution in the final match of a brief two-match tour of the Island, Lightbourne said this will afford him a great opportunity to size up the touring MLS side.

?It will be good for us because we will get to look at them in the first match (against a local select) and have a look at their players and their style of playing,? he added.

?And obviously I?m delighted that we have another chance to play against quality opposition shortly after playing against Santos. It?s good for the team as it keeps them active and also affords me an another opportunity to work on some of the things that I observed in the other matches.?

Lightbourne?s squad resumed training this week and will practice three times a week prior to the Revolution?s arrival in Bermuda next Sunday.

Bermuda went down 3-0 against Santos at the NSC on January 30.

?Basically we have the same pool of players presently preparing for the upcoming tour match,? said Lightbourne. ?And I think the match against New England will certainly benefit us because as a team we still have a long way to go. I also look forward to playing at the NSC because we know the pitch is going to be level and it?s up to the standard that New England are used to playing on.?

Meanwhile, last year saw Eastern Conference side Revolution complete the season with an overall record of 8-13 en route to advancing to the Eastern Conference finals where they were defeated by eventual champions DC United in a penalty shootout.

Legendary former Liverpool utility player, Steve Nicol ? proud winner of a European Cup, four Premiership titles and three FA Cups ? is current coach at New England.

Nicol represented the Reds between 1982 and 1994 playing under managers Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan and Graeme Souness while also representing cotland 27 times including the 1986 World Cup Finals in Mexico.

Nicol, who also played for Notts County, Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster Rovers, is assisted at Revolution by former Ipswich Town and England striker Paul Mariner.
