Focus on top tennis player Todd Martin in RG Magazine
Open, graces the cover of the April issue of RG Magazine , free with tomorrow's edition of The Royal Gazette .
Martin is one of the stars set to play in the $300,000 event at Coral Beach and Tennis Club, the biggest tennis tournament ever staged in Bermuda. Former French, US and Australian Open champion Mats Wilander, Patrick McEnroe, Canadian doubles ace Grant Connell and Australia's Jason Stoltenberg are among the others who will be stepping on court when the tournament gets under way on April 17.
In this month's RG , Bob Amesse previews the tournament and interviews Martin on his rise to the fringe of the world's top ten players. Amesse is assistant sports editor of The Royal Gazette and writes the weekly Match Points tennis column in the Mid-Ocean News.
Also, RG senior writer Robin Zuill talks to another Bermuda Open contender, New Zealander Brett Steven, who is one of three world-ranked players -- Connell and Australian Patrick Rafter being the others -- who now list Bermuda as their residence.
April's RG also features the magazine's annual spring fashion spread, photographed exclusively for RG by top Bermudian fashion photographer Marshall DeCouto. Titled Retroactive, this spring's styles update funky Sixties and Seventies looks with Nineties prints and metallic pastels.
Also on the photographic front, fellow Bermudian deForest (Shorty) Trimingham takes readers exotic Myanmar (formerly Burma), one of southeast Asia's rarely glimpsed countries, in Photoshoot.
In other features, Danny Sinopoli on Masterworks' new series of exhibitions, Travel cools out on Harbour Island, I-Spy reminisces with theatre veteran Elsbeth Gibson, and Roger Crombie reveals why he is terrified of public speaking.
It's all in RG and it's only in tomorrow's edition of The Royal Gazette .
