Question: Are you planning to vote?

Answer: I was planning to do but right now I don' t think that I have enough information on what the different parties are doing and what has been done.

Q: Are you a politically aware person?

A: I'm pretty politically aware generally but not in the specifics. I normally discuss political issues with my mom or my friends and especially one of my friends who is really into the political scene. Now that the election is coming on the parties have started to bring out some things but at the same time it seems like they're holding stuff back.

Q: What is your assessment of nearly five years of Progressive Labour Party government?

A: I would say they've done a good job but in some aspects they haven't because I find that they have been pushing a lot of people into corners, for example the taxi drivers with the global positioning system. As far as I see with that, they've resolved it a little bit. I'm not saying that I'm anti-PLP but I'm a little bit because of the fact that when they came into power a lot of my friends left the Island. I haven't seen anything for the young person come from the PLP. Since they came in I've found more fights have been happening, even though that might be out of their control. I would say that any government that comes in should make an effort to give something towards younger people because we do have a drug problem on the island, alcohol, accidents mainly because there isn't enough for them to do. Once you go 18, you can go out but before that they have nothing. The Regiment had a good idea with the paintball but from what I heard they stopped that.

Q: What is your view of the new UBP?

A: I think they are trying to give more back to Bermuda. From what I've heard they are trying to give a free healthcare centre to seniors. That's pretty much all I've heard so far but I think they are trying to give back to the community. As to whether they are representative of most Bermudians, that's kind of a trade off issue. So far I would say yes but at the same time I would like to hear more from them.

Q: What is the gravest issue facing Bermuda right now?

A: There is not enough to do on the Island. I mean that a lot of people are just sitting around doing nothing. Also, I'm coming back from school and I would like to look for a house and housing here is really hard to find, it's really expensive. I don't have enough. I can't afford it. Housing is a big issue. Crime is getting worse, from what I see, but I think that is just a development across generations. I don't think that is so much a governmental issue. I think that's individuals and the public.

Q: What is first on your wish list of things for the next Government to do?

A: They should focus more on the younger generation because it is the younger generation that is going to keep them here. Everything needs to be focused towards the younger generation, people who are around 15, with things like sports. As they get older, they will stick with you.
