Centre-back Kimandi Binns came through with the winning goal to earn defending champions North Village a place in the Friendship Trophy final.

He latched onto a cross from Village's other centre-back Kentoine Jennings after 79 minutes at Devonshire Rec. last night to blast home a shot from 12 yards that killed Colts' last remaining hope of winning a cup competition this season.

Until Binns settled things the game, mediocre for most of it, looked as though it would go into extra time with both teams the lacking finishing touch.

Play was even during a first-half that ended 1-1 with Kevin Jennings of Village and Lloyd Holder of Colts coming close to scoring - Jennings having a fierce shot after just two minutes sensationally saved by goalkeeper Kevin Bean while Holder was robbed of possession after 35 minutes as he was about to shoot.

Holder opened the scoring for Colts after 41 minutes during a counter attack down the left flank. Moving swiftly into the box he blasted home a shot from an angle that goalkeeper Dwayne (Streaker) Adams could not handle.

But the joy was short-lived as Clay Smith snatched the equaliser on

the stroke of half-time, hitting a scorcher from 25 yards after a pass from Kentoine Jennings.

The teams remained competitive for long spells once play re-started in the second-half.

Just one minute in Holder had his blast from 12 yards blocked by goalkeeper Adams, but six minutes later substitute Aljame Zuill put Colts ahead 2-1 when he collected a fine pass from Keenan Burchall to slot the ball home from 14 yards.

However, Village fought back gamely and levelled the scores after 58 minutes with Michael Hansey blasting home the equaliser from 25 yards.

Village came close to going ahead after 65 minutes but Binns watched in agony as his shot from 18 yards sailed inches wide of the post.

But he was to make amends later when with extra time staring the teams in the face the centreback settled matters.
